Aquatalia Launches Men’s Footwear Line

Marvin Krasnow and his late wife created Aquatalia footwear in 1994. Now the family business includes their daughters, Rena (VP of Design) and Jodi (VP of Sales), who have been on board for a decade. Aquatalia is now owned by New York based Global Brands Group.

The innovative designs and functional luxury of Aquatalia shoes evolved from three things in Marvin Krasnow’s life: his engineering degree, experience in his family’s shoe factory and living through severe Canadian winters. He was well equipped to become a visionary in this weatherproof luxury shoes niche.

Aquatalia expanded their line with modern yet practical handbags designed by Rena. The bags complement their shoes with the same high quality Italian materials.

Next, Aquatalia will be expanding into into men’s footwear, which will be launching at FN PLATFORM in February!

We sat down for a Q&A session with Jim Gabriel, President of the footwear division at Global Brands. He provided us with some details about the men’s footwear launch, which we are happy to share with you here:  

Aquatalia had a men's line from 1998 to 2002. What prompted you to bring it back now?

The time just seemed right. Since becoming involved with the brand, it seems every man I meet who is familiar with Aquatalia asks, “When are you going to do a men’s line?” There is a demand for this type of weather proof luxury in footwear.

What are your goals for the men’s line?

Quite simply, we want the men’s line to mirror the philosophy of the women’s line, but at a more accelerated pace. We have an aggressive growth strategy for men’s and the brand overall.

What does your men's footwear customer look like today?

He could be 18 or 80, but this is a man who is not willing to sacrifice style for comfort. Whether it is a classic oxford or an athletic-inspired style, every shoe is impeccably designed for a discerning customer who is not accustomed to compromise.

Do you plan on extensions for accessories like the women's line?

Absolutely. The core tenants of the brand make extensions a natural. Accessories are just the beginning.

What are the standout features of the line that you are most excited for customers to experience?

Advanced constructions like a flexible Goodyear Welt, innovative weatherproofing technologies as well as the quality and integrity that come with handcrafting the entire collection in Italy.
